BEML to set up aerospace unit in Bangalore

BEML is planning to invest Rs. 3160 million to set up a greenfield manufacturing unit in Bangalore to set up a aerospace unit. It will manufacture slat jigs for SU-30, tow bars for aircrafts, fuselage rotating jigs for IJTs, gear components for Cheetah helicopters apart from ground support equipment for defence vehicles including automatic weapon loaders and crash fire tenders. BEML has also received Center for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) for aero design.

BHEL setting up a pipe manufacturing plant at Thirumayyam

BHEL is setting up a green field pipe manufacturing unit at Thirumayyam in Tamil Nadu. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 2500 million and is likely to be completed by December 2011. The new facility will help to diversify into nuclear, refinery and petrochemical business apart from its traditional boiler business. Currently, the company has acquired 40 acres of land is in the process of acquiring another 40 acres of land.

Allison Transmission to cater domestic demand from Oragadam unit

Allision Transmission, the US based company has opened a manufacturing facility at Oragadam near Chennai with an investment of Rs. 60 million. It will make automotive transmission components for commercial vehicle industry. The plant is spread over 28 acres in SIPCOT park which is near to automotive plants of Hyundai, Mahindra and Ford. Allison Transmission has manufacturing plants across globe and will look to source components from India to cut costs. With rising demand for CNG and low floor ultra tech buses, Allison Transmission is expecting a boost in sales in coming years

GKN Driveline setting up a precision forging plant at Oragadam


GKN Driveline is expanding its production capacity of driveshafts anticipating a surge in demand. It is setting up  a new precision forging unit at Oragadam near Chennai and expanding its Dharuhera unit with an investment of Rs. 1000 million.  It will supply 14 kind of drive shafts to Nissan which is setting up a green field project at Oragadam. The company has around 70% market share and it has also designed a special cost effective drive shaft for low cost Nano.
